GVSU track and field names Robert Klenk new throws coach

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State track and field team, consistently home to some of the best throwers in the country on both the men's and women's side, have announced that Rob Klenk has been named the new throws coach for GVSU.

Klenk replaces Blaine Maag, who took a throws coach position at Michigan State University.

Klenk comes from Ashland University where he competed as a college athlete and coached with four-time Olympian Jud Logan. During his four years of throwing at Ashland, Klen was a seven-time Division II All-American in the hammer, 35 lb weight and javelin, including winning the 2008 national championship in the 35 lb weight throw. In his four years of coaching at Ashland, Klenk helped coach nine national champions and 47 All-Americans.

He has a bachelor's degree in geology from Ashland and hails from Kettering, Ohio.

His first meet as the throws coach for GVSU will be on December 6th, when GVSU hosts the Laker Early Bird in the Kelly Family Sports Center.
