Grant Fisher repeats as Gatorade National Boys XC Runner of the Year

After winning back-to-back Foot Locker National Championships, Grant Fisher shocked no one in receiving his second straight designation as Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year last Thursday, January 22.

The Grand Blanc, Mich. senior capped an undefeated cross country campaign with a 15:03 5k win at San Diego's Balboa Park for the annual championship. He has not lost a high school race since 2013 and his cross country streak dates back to 2012. Fisher is the nation's top returning miler (4:02.02) and two miler (8:51.28) this track season.

He is just the tenth prep athlete in any sport to repeat the prestigious honor. Fellow two-time Foot Locker Champion and three-time Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein traveled to Grand Blanc to present the award to Fisher last week.

"Grant Fisher continues to amaze me," said Grand Blanc head coach Ed Stanbury. "He works hard to improve and perfect all aspects of his training and competitive racing skills. He's the runner every coach dreams of having on their team, and he's a super person too."
