Upcoming AAU Star: Alexandria Woods

Alexandria Woods has been running in the AAU for the Westside Track Club in Kentucky since she was five; each year, she has gotten faster and this weekend, she takes on the AAU Region 6 qualifier. Woods runs multiple events, ranging from the 80m hurdles to the 800m. Now, as a 12-year-old, Woods ranks No. 1 in Region 6 for both of her main events: the 400m and the 800m. In her past two years competing in the AAU, Woods qualified for the Junior Olympics both times. In her seven years racing the 400m, Woods dropped her PR by 1:22; in her three years running the 800m, she shrank it by 27 seconds.

To qualify for a 400m final, she will have to run one of the top eight times in prelims. Looking at the 2015 AAU Junior Olympics results, Woods will most likely have to break one minute to have a good shot, which isn't far from her reach. Likewise, she will have to qualify in the 800m, which accepts the top 12 finishers from prelims.  For Woods to qualify and/or place, she only has to continue her progression and improvements. Watch for her to dominate in the 400m and 800m races this weekend!
