Patuxent's Hayley Jackson broke the Maryland High School outdoor state record for the girls 2 mile run on Saturday with her 10:14.57 fifth place performance at the Brooks PR Invitational. The previous record of 10:16.46 was held by Christy Nichols set back in 1996 (Note: Nichols ran 10:09.75 indoors).

Jackson ran a solid race throughout keeping a position in the top half of the field after the two cross country national champions Brie Oakley and Claudia Lane separated early in the race with a sub 10 minute pace. She closed well to finish ahead of an impressive list of names who came in with many national accolades, fast times, and state titles from their respective states as well.

Her performance wraps up an outstanding high school career which saw a state record performance indoors in the 1600 in 4:45 and double digit total of state titles in the 2A classification. In the cross country season, Jackson earned All-American honors with a top 10 finish at Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.
