Dustin Horter and Conant Smith had a battle for the ages at the 2017 Division I State Championship. The two elite performers, and friendly rivals, were shoulder to shoulder for virtually the entire race and it all came down to a sprint finish over the final 100 meters.
In the end, Horter captured his second consecutive state title due to his 15:03.50 clocking while Smith took second in 15:03.90.
On Saturday, Smith will have an opportunity to earn his first state championship win when the DI contest kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
