Three Titans finished in the top 30 and six harriers placed in the top 50 as the Detroit Titans women's cross country team finished sixth at the Horizon League Championships, hosted by UDM at Kensington Metropark.

“I am very excited to see where the women finished,” said head coach Guy Murray. “This was a good sixth-place finish in a close pack and I am very happy for the team's performance today.”

The weather impacted much of the event as cold and windy conditions turned to a steady rain during the women's 5k race. The Titans braved the weather to post an average team time of 20:37 and team score of 146, just three points behind fifth-place UIC and 30 off of fourth-place Youngstown State. Butler won the overall race with 21 points followed by Loyola (68) and Milwaukee (96).

Detroit was led by senior Beata Gorzynska (Ilawa, Poland/Mazurski of Olsztynie), who finished 21st in 20:14. Prior to this race, she had run in two HL Championships, tallying a 53rd-place finish as a sophomore and 77th last season.

Freshman Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) was among the top 15 halfway through the race and was right behind Gorzynska coming in 22nd in 20:18.

Junior Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe) placed 30th in 20:39, an improvement by 24 spots from last year's league meet.

“I think the team did really well and ran really strong,” said Ferrans. “We have been out here on this course before so we were used to it, especially going up the hill so that was to our advantage.”

Sophomore Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) was the next Titan in with a time of 20:52 for 35th, while freshman Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) earned 38th with a run of 21:01.

Rounding out the red, white and blue scoring was sophomore Kirstin Mooney's (Stirling, ON/St. Theresa Catholic) 50th-place performance in 21:25, while senior Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North) was 55th, crossing the finish line in 21:46.

It was a festive day throughout the event as Titan greats from Hall-of-Famer Bonnie (Fitzpatrick) Wood to three-time All-MCC performer Ken Dubois were on hand to cheer on UDM and present the Horizon League awards to the winners. Tommy Titan was also on hand for two kid's races, which included some treats for all the participants at the end of their run.

The Titans will now get ready for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, held in Bloomington, IN, on Saturday, Nov. 14.
