Men’s Cross Country Announces Award Winners

After another successful year putting in the miles on the course, the UDM men's cross country team recently held its post-season banquet. Five Titans were honored with awards on the day led by three time team MVP in junior Pat Liederbach.

Dominick Taddonio MVP- Pat Liederbach Took home his third MVP honor after finishing as the top Titan in all four of his races. Posted his season best 8k of 25:09 at both Louisville and Bowling Green and was just the third Titan to earn All- League honors three times taking 10th at HL Championship at Kensington. He then had his best finish at NCAA regional (60th) running a 10K PR of 32:40, the fourth best finish by a Titan and just the third to place in the top 100 on three occasions.

Student-Athlete Award- Alex Gould- A 3.7 GPA in biochemistry who will pursue dental school after graduation, Gould opened the season as the top Titan finisher at the Golden Grizzly Open improving his time by two minutes. He was also the top Titan at the Michigan Intercollegiate. He ran his PR in all but one race on the season and averaged 1:49 faster on the five courses that were the same as in 2008. Gould would go on to break the 26-minute barrier running a 25:53 at Bowling Green and then improved his Horizon League finish by 35 spots finishing 43rd. He ended the year in 161st-place in his first NCAA Great Lakes Regional appearance.

Coach's Award- Alex Vanias- After missing all of the 2009 track season with injuries that curtailed his training significantly, Vanias stayed fit using a lot of cross training and returned to competition to finish as the top Titan at the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invite and National Catholic. He ran his season best 8k of 26:10 at Bowling Green and improved two spots for 20th at the Horizon League Championships.

Rookie of the Year- Edwin Gay- He overcame a summer injury and ran as the Titan No. 3 at the National Catholics running 26:49. His season ended early after battling the flu bug at mid-year.

Most Improved Award- Bob Radlich- Radlich made his official Titan debut after redshirting his first year and ran in the Varsity 7 in all but two races. He improved his 8k PR to 26:48 at Bowling Green and finished as the Titan's seventh man and 52nd at the Horizon League meet, earning his trip to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional .
