Track & Field Readies For Last True Test Before HL Indoor Championships

Grand Valley State Big Meet Info

Windsor Team Challenge Performance List

With the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Detroit, just two weeks away, the Titan men's and women's teams will have a full weekend of action as student-athletes from both squads will take part In either the Windsor Team Challenge or the Grand Valley State Big Meet.

The Windsor team meet will be held on Saturday, while the GVSU event begins Friday night and concludes on Saturday. A few Titan athletes will actually compete on both days.

“The men will mostly be at Windsor as we need to prep for the HL championships on a flat 200m track, although a few will chase some times at Grand Valley in what is going to be a pretty good meet and a very big meet,” said head coach Guy Murray. “There will be a larger group of women at GVSU to meet our NCAA scheduling requirements.”

Some of the top Titans that will run this weekend are junior Pat Liederbach in the mile and 3000m and junior Lesley Hanna in the 400m. Two UDM students who will log double duty are senior Alex Gould (800m) and sophomore Vushaun Landrum (200m), who plan on running at both meets.

“Windsor is a great meet and will get us the work we need on the 200m track,” said Murray. “The HL meet is open with opportunities for us and we need a good weekend here to take advantage of those opportunities.”

On the women's side, junior Sequoyia Calhoun will take part in the 400m and senior Brittany Horne will again be the main thrower for UDM as both athletes will compete in both meets.

The women distance groups will also get a great test, especially with five runners in line for PR's in the 5000m.

“Coach (Emily) Jackson's distance group has really been running well with personal records every time out,” said Murray. “At GVSU, we get the NCAA events and some work for HL's that we couldn't get at Windsor. We expect some more PR's and to put ourselves in position for a great Horizon League meet.”

The Titans will host the Horizon League Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28 at the University of Michigan. For more information, including how to purchase tickets and prices, please click here.
