Titans Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award

USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country All Academic Teams Release

USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All Academic Teams Release

The definition of a student-athlete was on display all season long and now the Detroit men's and women's cross country teams were honored for their hard work in the classroom and their success on the course as the Titans were named one of the All-Academic Teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

It was the eight-straight season that the men's program earned the accolade after posting a 3.42GPA, a grade that was the highest among the four Horizon League teams on the academic list. UDM also had the highest GPA of any Division I team in the state of Michigan that was honored. The Titans ended the year by scoring 571 points and taking 21st place at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in November.

The women harriers earn the award for the second year in a row after the Titans compiled a 3.44 GPA. The GPA was the third highest out of the five conference teams honored and was also the second best out of the five Division I Michigan schools that made the mark. Detroit placed 29th with 882 points at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, a three-spot improvement and a 73-point difference from 2008.

In all, 110 men's and 162 women's programs were honored.

For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
