Horne Among National Leaders in Hammer Throw

Just one meet into the outdoor season, UDM senior thrower Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) ranks 24th in the nation in the women's hammer throw after shattering the previous Detroit record and her own personal best with a mark of 188 feet, seven inches at Saturday's Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, OH.

Her distance also ranks her 14th in the East and was long enough to give her the meet victory in the hammer throw on Saturday, ahead on Dayton's Mallory Barnes, an indoor All-American in the weight throw.

But the hammer throw wasn't the only area where Horne moved up the Titans record leaderboards on Saturday. The three-time all-Horizon League performer uncorked a throw of 140-6 in the discus throw, taking fourth place in the meet and moving up to No. 3 in UDM history, becoming just the fourth Titan to throw over 140 feet.
