Titans Go Long at Day One of Bison Outdoor Classic Track Meet

University of Detroit Mercy distance runners were busy Friday afternoon and evening as day one of competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University in Lewsiburg, PA, kicked off, where everything from 1500 through 10,000 meters was contested on the track.

Two Titans made their way into the Detroit record books in the 10,000 meter run at the conclusion of the day. Junior Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe) became the No. 9 Titan of all-time in the event, clocking a personal best by 50 seconds and crossing the line in a time of 39:09.60. On the men's side, junior Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) staked his claim to the fifth-best Titan time in the 10,000 meter run with a 32:04.32.

In the women's 1500 meter run, freshman Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) put forth a 5:07.97 effort on a day where wind was a not-so-small factor. Sophomore Robert Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) ran the collegiate men's 1500, posting a 4:08.42. Meanwhile, senior Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) served as a rabbit for the first half of the invitational 1500, where senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) narrowly missed dropping under the four minute barrier, clocking a 4:00.25.

Junior Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) also took part in an invitational event, the men's 5000 meters. Liederbach clocked a time of 15:01 in the field, while in the collegiate field of the same event Detroit juniors Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) and Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) clocked times of 15:47 and 16:00, respectively. A pair of Titan women were also in action in the 5000, as rookie Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) led the UDM charge with a time of 19:15, and teammate sophomore Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) wasn't far off in 19:34.

Detroit will continue to compete as competition at Bucknell resumes Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the pole vault, and the speedsters will take to the track beginning at 11:00 a.m. with 4 x 100 meter relay races.
