On a day full of fun, entertainment and praise, the Detroit Titans men's track and field team defended its home field with an impressive 105-78 victory over in-state rival Oakland in the 5th Annual UDM-Oakland Dual on Thursday evening.

UDM won 12 events on the day led by sophomore Vushaun Landrum's (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) four victories. He won the 100-meter (10.91), 200m (22.76), and the long jump (6.80m/22”03.75') in a meet and stadium record. He was also part of the 4x100-meter relay (42.71). His win in the 100m was .2 seconds ahead of teammate Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI/Ferndale) (10.93) and .64 seconds ahead of Oakland's Jeff Decator, two individuals that won their respective conference titles a year ago and advanced to the Mideast Regionals.

Junior Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) won the 400m in 49.32 with sophomore Joe LaRocca coming in second in 50.68. Hanna also claimed the high jump at 1.93m/6"04.00'.  Senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) and junior Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON/Denis Morris Catholic) were neck-and-neck in the 800m with Gould taking first with a run of 1:56.91, while Mahler was at 1:56.94.

The mile saw junior Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) retain his crown in the dual with a winning time of 4:19.50, while junior Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) (9:06.65) held off junior classmate Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) (9:08.04) in the 3000m. Junior Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) won the steeplechase posting a 10:09.56, while freshman Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti) earned the triple  jump honor with a 12.68m/41-07.25 mark.

The 400-meter hurdles also saw Detroit take 1-2 as freshman Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) took first in 56.47 and rookie Vincent Lefler (Midland, MI/Midland) was second at 57.14. The 4x100m, comprised of Landrum, Cleary, and seniors Deonte Osayande (Detroit, MI/Winans Academy) and Sam Jones (Detroit, MI / U-D Jesuit) were victorious in 42.71, while the 4x400 team of Hanna, LaRocca, freshman Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) and senior Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) took their race in 3:26.85.

Some other strong performances came from Osayande, who placed second in the 200m with a time of 23.05, while Pattern was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.74m/22”01.50'. Junior Brian Greenhoe (Sand Lake, MI/Grant) finished second in the steeple with a personal best 10:16.43 time and freshman Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) was third in the decathlon with a UDM record 4,518.

The day also saw Detroit honor three seniors for all their hard work and dedication in their last year in a Titan uniform in Gould, Jones and Wozniak. All the kids in attendance had a chance to take to the track in the Tommy Titan-Golden Grizzly kid's race, while spectators took part in the open mile.

Detroit will quickly return to action as the Titans compete in the EMU Twilight this weekend.
