Action got underway Friday morning in Lisle, IL, on the campus of Benedictine University, as the 2010 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Loyola University and the University of Illinois-Chicago began competition with mutli-events.

Detroit freshman Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) got off to hot start in the decathlon, achieving personal bests in four of Friday's five events, and posting a day one total of 2,895 points. At the halfway point, Hennrick currently sits in fourth place, while University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Dan Simon holds the lead with 3,450 points.

In the first discipline of the day, Hennrick clocked a PR of 11.50 seconds to finish second in the 100 meter dash. In event two, the long jump, he recorded a mark of 5.89 meters. He then tallied PRs in the last three events of the day, recording a throw 9.30 meters in the shot put, clearing 1.69 meters in the high jump, and a 400 meter dash time of 55.00 seconds.

The decathlon concludes Saturday with the final five events, including the 110 meter hurdles and the javelin, both of which he is ranked fifth in the HL in and competing in individually. Also ahead for Hennrick in the decathlon Saturday are the discus throw, pole vault and 1,500 meter run.

Also slated to take place Friday night were the men's and women's 10,000 meter run, but lightning caused the event to be postponed until Saturday.

Multi-event competition resumes Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., and individual events will kick-off with the 110 meter hurdles prelims at 3:00 p.m.
