Liederbach Takes Fourth In Titan 8K Record At HL Championships

CHICAGO -- Senior #Patrick Liederbach# (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey)  once again etched his name in Detroit cross country history as the Titan harrier earned fourth at the Horizon League Championships, hosted by Loyola at Montrose Beach.

As a team, the Titans claimed fifth with 121 points, just three behind fourth place Milwaukee. Butler won the team title for the 13th-straight year with 22 points, while Loyola (69) and UIC (83) came in second and third, respectively. Kris Gauson of Butler won the event in 24:20.

Liederbach made history in his final league race as his fourth-place effort in 24:32 is the fastest 8k time in Titan history. His fourth-place finish also gave him first team All-Horizon League honors as he became just the second UDM runner to earn All-Conference accolades four times. He took home first team All-League as a freshman and second team honors the last two seasons.

Seniors Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI/Shrine) and Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) were next for Detroit as Harris was 22nd in 26:07, while Ayala scored for the first time in the league meet finishing 32nd in a career-best 26:21.

Sophomore Edwin Gay (Grosse Pointe, MI/GP South) placed 34th in and junior Bob Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill)was the last UDM scorer running 26:53 for 46th, just ahead of senior Kevin Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin), who was 47th in 26:57.

The Titans will now get ready for their final race of the 2010 season as Detroit heads back to Rochester Hills for the Great Lakes Regional, scheduled for Nov. 13 at Oakland's Katke Cousins Golf Course.
