Titans Track and Field In Action Over Weekend

Both the men's and women's teams had some athletes participate in events over the weekend. A handful of Titans traveled to GVSU to compete in the Laker Early Bird Invite, while others headed to Eastern Michigan.

Alex Sexton (Bath, MI, Bath) won the 60mH prelim, but was knocked off in the finals to place second at GVSU. Sexton ran a 9.17, in the prelim and finished the day with a time of 9.23.

Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI, Coopersville) finished in the top five in the 3000m run. Ayala ran in 9:12.61 to finish in fifth. In the mile, Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI, Shrine) placed second for Detroit. Harris crossed the finish line at 4:30.03.

Rachel Hofsess (Milford, MI, Milford) and Sarah Martinez (Grand Blanc, MI, Flint Powers) each competed in the mile for the women's team. Hofsess took second place (5:32.93), and Martinez ended in third (5:50.09).

More Titans made the trip to Eastern Michigan. Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) and Elizabeth Arroyo ( Dearborn Heights, MI, Divine Child) each competed in the 200m dash. Hart placed sixth with a time of 26.91, while Arroyo finished in 13th (29.33). Arroyo also ran in the 400m, (11th – 1:07.32) while Hart participated in the 60mH (17th – 14.99).

Deonte Osayande (Detroit, MI, Winans Academy) and Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary) ran in the 60m dash. Osayande competed as an unattached athlete and finished with an eighth place (7.09) spot in the prelims. Landrum just missed the cut as he finished 10th (7.18). In the finals Osayande placed seventh (7.45). Landrum also competed in the long jump. His mark of 21-1.50 put him in fifth place. 

Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis), Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH, Anthony Wayne), Osayande and Steven Ivanics (Dearborn, MI, Divine Child) all ran in the 300m run. Hennrick led the way with an 11th place finish (37.61). Donald was right behind him in 12th (37.89). Osayande and Ivanics also finished back-to-back as Osayande was in 15th (38.76) with Ivanics taking 16th (39.67).

Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) and Vince Lefler (Midland, MI , Midland) ran in the 60mH. Campell finished fifth (8.48), and Lefler took sixth (8.68).

Off the track, it was freshman Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, MI, Port Hope) competing in the throw events for the Titans. Koglin took ninth place in the shot put with a distance of 34-6.25. She also placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 38-10.50.

Jeffrey Sherman (New Hudson, MI, Catholic Central) andEric Lewis (Eastpointe, MI, Fraser) took part in the shot put. Sherman took eighth place with a throw of 41-2.50, while Lewis finished in 12th (38-10.50). Lewis also competed in the weight throw. He placed ninth with a mark of 43-10.
