Titans Run Well at GaREAT Sports Complex

GENEVA, Ohio – Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) and Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas, Coakley) led the Titans at the GaREAT Collegiate Open over the weekend. Mahler moved to fifth all-time on the Titan Top 10 list in the 800-meter run, while Hanna dominated the 400-meter dash.

The Titans had two teams compete in the distance medley relay. The “A” team of Mahler, Hanna, Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin) and Alex Harris (Huntington Woods, MI, Shrine) finished in third place with a time of 10:09.91. They moved to ninth all-time on the Titan Top 10 list. The “B” team featured Robert Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY, Cleveland Hill)Joe Raffin (Valparaiso, IN, Chesterton)Kevin Wozniak (Dearborn, MI, Edsel Ford), and Edwin Gay (Grosse Pointe, MI, GP South). That team placed seventh in 10:28.55.

Mahler came up with a second place finish in the 800-meter run. He set a new personal record time crossing the finish line at 1:53.31. Mahler now moves to fifth all-time on the Titan Top 10.  That time also set a UDM indoor record!

Smalley also ran well for Detroit in the 800m. Smalley took 10th place with a time of 1:57.17, while Wozniak finished in 17th (2:00.39).

Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) won his heat in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50. Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis) and Vince Lefler (Midland, MI , Midland) also ran the hurdles. Hennrick finished in 8.70, while Lefler was close behind (8.73). Campbell came back to take sixth place in the finals (8.54). Lefler also competed in the 600-meter run for Detroit. He set a new personal record in the race with a time of 1:26.67 (19th place).

With the hurdles off the track Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON, Sandwich Secondary) stepped up and won his heat with a time of 7.04 in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Charles Anthony (Northville, MI, Farmington) also ran the 60m. He clocked in at 7.28. Landrum ran even faster in the finals with a time of 6.96. He ended the race in third.

Landrum and Anthony joined Hanna in the 200-meter dash. Hanna led the trio by setting a new indoor record clocking in at 21.83, which landed him in third place. Landrum clocked in at 22.92, while Anthony ended with a time of 23.36.

Landrum used another strong effort to place sixth in the long jump. The junior marked at 20-4.50. Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI, Ypsilanti) also cracked the top ten. Patterson recorded a jump at 20-1.75. Patterson came back to lead Detroit in the triple jump. He placed seventh with a leap of 42-8.75.

Raffin ran his first sub-50 race in the 400-meter dash prelim. The sophomore clocked in at 49.62. In the finals it was Hanna winning the race as he led from start to finish. Hanna has now won the 400m in three straight meets.  He won the this open with a time of 48.04. Raffin finished fourth overall (49.62).  The 4x400 meter relay team of Raffin, Lefler, Mahler and Hanna looked very impressive on their way to winning the race in 3:18.96.
