Final Results

WINDSOR, Ont. -- The Detroit Titan men's track and field team finished third in the Windsor Team Challenge on Saturday. Detroit accumulated 55 points in the 17 scored events. Host school Windsor won the meet with 149 points, while Western Ontario took second with 59 points.

Detroit dominated the pentathlon event as Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI, St. Francis) walked away with a first place finish and a new Detroit record in the event. Hennrick scored 3,122 points, as teammate Anthony Donald (Waterville, OH, Anthony Wayne) placed second with 3,022 points. Donald's performance ranks second on the Titan Top 10 list.

In the pentathlon, Hennrick won the long jump (20-8), 60-meter hurdles (8.68), and took second in the 1000-meter run (2:55.73).

Matt Mahler (Thorold, ON, Denis Morris Catholic) took first place for Detroit in the 1000-meter run. Mahler crossed the finish line in 2:29.15. He is just the second Titan to even break the 2:30 mark. Teammate Robert Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY, Cleveland Hill) placed sixth (2:34.23).

Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI, Ferndale ) made it to the finals of the 60-meter dash after running a 7.09 in the prelims. He finished the day with a fifth place finish in the finals running a 7.03.

Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI, Gladwin) placed fifth in the 600-meter run. Smalley finished the race at 1:23.51 which is a new personal-best for the sophomore. Patrick Liederbach (Petoskey, MI, Petoskey) finished in eighth place in the 1500-meter run. Liderbach ran the race in 3:59.49. These two Titans ran together in the 4x800 meter relay. Smalley, Liederbach, Mahler and Radlich took second place with a time of 8:00.64.

Two Titans qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals. Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI, Yale) finished fifth (8.47), while Vince Lefler's (Midland, MI , Midland)time of 8.57 in the prelims would be his best of the day as he was eliminated from the finals (false start).

Off the track, Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI, Ypsilanti) took fourth in both the long jump (22-2.50), and the triple jump (43-5). Floyd Hoskin (Gary, IN, Bowman Academy) followed Patterson in the triple jump with a distance of 42-0.50 for fifth place.

Jeff Sherman (New Hudson, MI, Catholic Central) and Eric Lewis (Eastpointe, MI, Fraser) went back-to-back in the shot put. Lewis had a throw of 38-7.75 for sixth place, while Sherman took fifth (40-10.25).

The Titans will have one final tune-up by competing in the Silverston Invitational on Feb. 19 before taking part in the Horizon League Championships at the end of the month.
