Detroit Completes Day One at League Championships

Day One Results

GENEVA, Ohio – The Titans recorded one point with a great effort from the distance medley relay team after the first day of the 2011 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Titans will return to the GaReat Facility tomorrow to wrap up the indoor season.

Detroit picked up one point for placing sixth in the distance medley relay. The team of Rachel Hofsess (Milford, MI, Milford)Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH, Zanesville)Sarah Martinez (Grand Blanc, MI, Flint Powers), and Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI, Port Huron ) crossed the finish line at 12:37.22. The team will move to seventh on the Titan Top 10 list.

Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI, Belleville) took top honors in the 400-meter dash on Friday. Calhoun set the best time in the second heat running the race in 57.11. She also qualified for the 200-meter dash finals by running a 25.79 in the prelims. Brandee Hart (Oak Park, MI, Berkley) just missed the cut as she finished in 11th. Hart's time of 26.02 was a personal record. Hart did qualify for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. The freshman ran a 9.27 in the second heat, which was the eighth fastest time of the day.

Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON, St. Theresa Catholic) set a personal record in the 800-meter run clocking in at 2:15.61. She posted the second fastest time in the event, which qualifies her for the finals tomorrow. Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI, Southwestern Academy ) and Cecilia Pope (New Baltimore, MI, Anchor Bay) also ran well in the 800m, yet they will miss the finals. Hampton finished with the ninth (2:20.56) best time, while Pope was close behind with the tenth (2:24.47). Pope also set a personal record with her time.

Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI, Marine City) placed ninth in the 5000-meter run for Detroit. She clocked in at 18:29.63.Off the track, Allyson Koglin (Port Hope, MI, Port Hope) cracked the top 10 in the weight throw with a toss of 42-11.50.
