Track & Field Prepares for EMU Twilight

Meet Information

DETROIT -- Eastern Michigan University will be the host for the 2011 Twilight Invitational this weekend. This non-scoring meet will run from Friday, April 22 to Saturday, April 23.

The meet will be held at Rynearson Stadium on the Olds/Marshall Track. Facility gates will open to the public at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, with the meet beginning at 3:00 p.m. Field events held on Friday include the hammer throw, shot put, and pole vault.

Running events will get underway at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The running events taking place include the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 400-meter hurdles, 1500-meter run, and the 5000-meter run.

On Saturday, the gates will open to the public at 8:30 a.m., with the meet scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Field events on this day include the javelin, discus, long jump, high jump, and triple jump.

EMU will get the running events started at 12:00 p.m. with the start of the 4x100 meter relay. Other running events happening on Saturday include the 100-meter hurdles for the women and the 110-meter hurdles for the men, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run, and finally the 4x400 meter relay.

Vushaun Landrum will look to repeat as the fastest man at the meet. Landrum took first place in the 100-meter dash a year ago at the EMU Twilight with a time of 10.86. Landrum currently has the seventh best 100-meter dash time in the Horizon League (11.00).

Senior Lesley Hanna will be a top competitor in the 400-meter dash. Hanna has the best 400-meter time in the Horizon League and has clocked the 33rd fastest time in the country at 46.72. Two student-athletes from Texas A&M are at the top of the list. Tabarie Henry owns the fastest time at 44.83.

Hanna is also ranked in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.07 at the Beach Invite set a new Detroit record, and puts him at 49th in country.

Matt Mahler has the fifth-best Horizon League time in the 800-meter run. Mahler recently set the time at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays (1:53.37). Patrick Liederbach is also near the top of the Horizon League in the 5000-meter run. Liederbach's time of 14:35.32 at the Mt. SAC Relays moved him to fifth in the league.

Anthony Donald and Vince Lefler took advantage of the California weather to come up with two great times in the 400-meter hurdles last weekend. Donald is second in the league with a time of 54.61, while Lefler is close behind with a time of 54.74.

Off the track, Ja'Quan Patterson holds the third best long jump distance in the league. Patterson set the mark at the Bryan Clay Invitational (22-8.50). Eric Lewis will also look to perform well in the hammer throw. Lewis currently sits in fourth in the HL with a toss of 163-11.

On the women's side, Nicole Meisner was able set a great time in the 200-meter dash in front of a home crowd at the Detroit vs. Oakland Dual. The freshman has the fourth best time in the league at 25.62.

Senior Sequoyia Calhoun has the best time in the 400-meter dash. She recently ran a 55.80 at the Mt. SAC Relays to take the top spot.

Nikia Duncan had a great weekend in California by recording fast times in the 100 and 200-meter dash. She ran 12.47 in the 100-meter dash at the Beach Invite, and clocked a 25.81 200-meter time at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
