Hanna Qualifies for the 2011 NCAA East Preliminary Round

DETROIT – Lesley Hanna will represent the Detroit Titans this weekend by competing in the 2011 NCAA East Preliminary Round. The senior will compete in the men's 400-meter dash which is set to take place on Thursday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m.

The 2011 NCAA East Preliminary Round is a three-day event held in Bloomington, Ind. at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex. Field events will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26 while the running events will start with the women's 400-meter hurdles at 3:30 p.m.

If Hanna runs well in the first round of the men's 400-meter dash he will qualify for the quarterfinals which will be held on Friday, May 27 at 5:45 p.m.

“LJ has had a tremendous year and career at Detroit,” Head Coach Guy Murray said. “We hope to put the icing on the cake with a great finish here. He faces a very tough field, but one that he is very capable of competing with. He gained a lot of experience last year competing in the inaugural year of this format and that will help him.”

Hanna most recently placed fourth overall in the 400-meter dash at the Windsor Open. He crossed the finish line at 48.94. His qualifying time occurred at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays on April 14. Hanna recorded the top time in the Horizon League crossing the finish line in 46.72. He officially made the cut to compete last week as the Division I preliminary field was officially released on Thursday, May 19.

Hanna holds the 22nd best time in the East region. The top time belongs to Kirani James of Alabama. The sophomore is the NCAA defending champion. His best time of the season is 44.86. Other top athletes in the field include Torrin Lawrence, Thomas Murdaugh, Tavaris Tate and Brandon O'Connor.
