Men’s Track and Field Earns All-Academic Status

USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced that the Detroit Titan men's track and field team has earned the distinct honor of being an All-Academic Team for the track and field seasons.

In order to earn this distinction a team must record at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the men's team has received this honor. The Titans were one of four teams to make the cut from the Horizon League. Butler, Loyola, and Milwaukee were also recognized.

In total 90 institutions were named as men's 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Teams. BYU was tabbed as the Indoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year, while Florida State picked up the Outdoor Team of the Year honor. BYU finished in third-place at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. They compiled a 3.22 team GPA through the spring semester. Florida State was the nation's runner-up at the outdoor championships. The Seminoles held a 3.04 cumulative GPA during the spring semester.

The University of Richmond reported the highest cumulative team GPA (3.51) through the spring 2011 semester. Harvard and Duke finished second on the GPA list at 3.48.

Eight Big 12 squads were named to the All-Academic list to lead the nation's leagues. The Big East and Ivy followed with seven. The ACC had the fourth most with five.
