Cross Country Visits Notre Dame to Run In National Catholic Championships

Meet Program

DETROIT – Both the men's and women's cross country teams will be in Notre Dame, Ind. on Friday as the Titans prepare to compete in the 32nd Annual National Catholic Championships. This 30-plus year tradition will be held at the Notre Dame Cross Country Course.

The women's 5K-championship race will begin at 4:15 p.m. ET, with the men's five-mile championship race slated for 5 p.m. A JV race will be run prior to both championship races at 3:30 p.m.

A total of 823 runners will run around the Notre Dame course this year as the women's race features 33 teams compared to 32 for the men's side.

Kirstin Mooney placed 99th at the National Catholic Championships a year ago with a time of 19:53. Katrina Oberski also ran a solid race as she ran 20:08, placing her in 113th. As a team the women finished 17th overall with a score of 541.

Martin Nelkie and Edwin Gay ran well for Detroit at this event last year. Nelkie placed 60th overall with a time of 26:35, while Gay crossed the finish line at 26:58, landing him in 78th place.

Detroit will look to improve on their eighth place finish from a year ago. In order to do that the freshmen class will have to step up and contribute. One Titan to keep an eye on will be Colin Creagh. Creagh, the reigning Horizon League Runner of the Week, is coming off a second place finish in last week's 25th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invite.
