Prep Persons of the Year: Grosse Pointe South twins Hannah, Haley Meier know meaning of sportsmanshi

There they were, Hannah and Haley Meier, coming down the straightaway one more time as they finished the final 1,600-meter race of their high school careers.

It was the Division 1 state track and field championship meet and Hannah and Haley were running 1-2, which has been the norm throughout their careers.

Hannah, who fell before the 1,600 and missed the event as a freshman, finished first for the third straight year in setting an overall state record (4:39.23). Haley was second for the fourth straight year and her time (4:42.43) would have been an overall state record had Tammy Meier not delivered a second child one minute after Haley made her entrance.
