60 Meter Dash

A surprise final had Anthony Debardelaben take the title this year over early favorites Jordan Love and Sam Beal. Four kids went sub-7 seconds and the first five finishers were each a tenth of a second apart from eachother. I was in with the timer when the race finished.. It was just a wall of speed on the picture!

60 Meter Hurdles

This race proved to be as deep as it looked on paper. Devin McKinney came in with the top time but looked a little rusty as we worried before the meet began. Not sure if it makes it better or worse that his teammate, Antoine Lloyd took the title instead. Five of the eight guys in the final ran their best time of the season in the race. Talk about peaking at the right time!

200 Meter Dash

The weakest event coming into the meet had Wan'ya Williams walk away with a fairly easy win.

400 Meter Dash

Skyler Bowden took his first of three titles on the day by out-leaning Nolen Bright-Mitchell at the line.

800 Meter Run

The best and deepest race of the day! A great-sight to see for people who have watched the 800 quality lacking in the state since the days of Nick Kaiser. Brennan Munley took the title in 1:55.07 (US#21) but the most impressive part came when Ryan Wilkie was the last one on the podium with a 1:59.11. A total of nine kids went sub-2 which is very impressive!

1600 Meter Run

Another one of the "races of the day" going into the meet did not disappoint, but for different reasons than we originally thought. Grant Fisher proved that he is a force in any race he desides to run on the state and national level. Logan Wetzel finished second, but rather than kicking to go after Grant, he was forced to secure his silver medal. Five kids at 4:22 or better is great to see and makes this a race to watch all outdoor season!

3200 Meter Run

Both 3200's were absolutely tremendous to watch. Recent U of M commit, Costa Willets, took the race over Jesse Hersha as the two were seperated by less than a second. Mickey Davey showed a lot of strength and speed that I did not know he had to secure the number three spot in 9:33.

4x200 Meter Relay

The Michigan All-Stars took on of their two relay titles of the day in this race. The team of Skyler Bowden, J'ante Jackson, Duane Boyd, and Wan'ya Williams ran 1:30.71 to earn Bowden his second gold of the day.

4x400 Meter Relay

Michigan All-Stars for the win in 3:33.37. If you watch the race, you would never guess they win until the third handoff. Bowden got the baton and absolutely beasted it out to give himself the third win of the day.

4x800 Meter Relay

Spirit of Pre was chasing the MITS record of 7:59, but fell off through the first two legs. Josiah Humphrey, Ryan Gauche, Ryan Wilkie, and Logan Wetzel still ran a fantastic race and will now aim for defending the outdoor title they earned last year.

Distance Medley Relay

Snowdogs must have been dogging it headed into the state meet because they were not on anybody's radar to get the win. Kyle Dotterrer, Cam McAullffe, Chris Brower, and Anthony Berry ran a great race to distance themselves early from a very crowded field with five teams going sub-11 minutes!

High Jump

Cody Stemple took the win in a pretty deep field up-top. Antoine Lloyd had a nice double between this and the 60 hurdles.

Long Jump

The 200 may have been weak, but there was at least a favorite to win that. Long Jump was a very weak field with anybody to take the win.

Pole Vault

This is one of the better events in the state this year. Noah Gary is an absolute stud that didn't have a great day, but still got the win. Kaj Althaus has had an incredible indoor season to put him in the conversation of best pole vaulters in the state.

Shot Put

Kevin Weiler and Zach Purcilly were the two favorites and did not disappoint. A pair over 55 feet not bad at all.

Triple Jump

A pretty close competition between the top three spots all 41 feet or better.

Weight Throw

Tommy Roush was the clear favorite headed in and he did not disappoint. Already throwing 55 feet as a sophomore puts the 66 foot record in jeopardy going forward and possibly a three-time state champion!

60 Meter Dash

..And Sekayi Bracey takes her third-straight 60 dash finals since being an 8th grader.

60 Meter Hurdles

Ally Goff took one of the closer races of the day over Morgan Robertson. Goff has been the favorite all season long and did not disappoint.

200 Meter Dash

Savannah Roberson defended her crown in a pretty deep race. The top eight finishers were within just over a second which shows some real depth in the event this season.

400 Meter Dash

Well, there was definitely a drop-off with Motor City not being there. Nicole Manson took the win over Nicole Vacaguzman and Davonne Bolden all running sub-60.

800 Meter Run

Kennedy Beazley won the race, but not in the convincing fashion we originally thought. Megan O'Neil made it close, losing by a half-a-second. Even third place, Jackie Feist ran a great time, sub-2:20.

1600 Meter Run

The true depth of the state of Michigan showed in the 1600 with recent U of M commit, Ellie Leonard leading the way at 5:00. Valerie Wierenga, Karrigan Smith, and Jordann McDermitt all ran sub 5:30 which is great without Ersula Farrow or Audrey Belf in the race.

3200 Meter Run

Practically a mirror-image race of the Gazelle Sports Elite 3200 a month ago between Audrey Belf and Lauren Brasure. Lauren hung in there for as long as she could, until Belf's speed showed the last 400. Girls distance was on full-display with six girls running sub-11 minutes.

4x200 Meter Relay

The fast heat was very fun to watch for everyone. New Breed held their #1 seed but Elite Performance, Pop's Angels, and Ann Arbor Youth made it a nice competition!

4x400 Meter Relay

If one club won the day, Spirit of Pre was that club. The girls won three relays, in convincing fashion. The team of Alexa Ross, Haley Mayes, Kennedy Beazley, and Hannah Cummings won the race by about 4 seconds. Kennedy Beazley and Hannah Cummings finished the day with three golds a piece.

4x800 Meter Relay

Spirit of Pre gets the win without a full lineup. NXC Running Club made it close at the finish. The team of Gloria Park, Hannah Cummings, Abby Rentschler, and Haleigh Cummings held on to give SPoP a double-win in the 4x800 and won the DMR as well.

Distance Medley Relay

Spirit of Pre was the #1 seed by about a minute headed in. Beazley blew the race up on the very first leg and once Alexa Ross got the baton it was all over. Hannah Cummings and Elianna Shwayder ran great legs to race for time but couldn't quite get the record. The team should do well at New Balance Nationals in a few weeks.

High Jump

A very impressive height of 5-8 to get the win by Jailah Mason lead a deep field with six girls over 5-3 and 12 girls over 5-1. In the past, girls high jump has suffered in the state so this is a good sign for the outdoor season.

Long Jump

Ally Goff won by a foot to take her second title of the day. She also PR'd by about 4 inches, which is a good day to really show up. Shelby Allen and Madison Pierce both jumped 17-4 making that depth really show in the top three jumpers.

Pole Vault

Mackenzie Shell took down the previous record from 2010, and as just a junior. Madison Pierce finsihed second in the vault to give her a great day in the field.

Shot Put

It was a clear throw-off for the top two spots between Brittany Casey and Niki Sargent both throwing over 40 feet.

Triple Jump

Another record-breaking performance had Shelby Allen beat Dynasty McGee's by almost two feet! McGee's high school career ended up alright as she ventured over to Penn State and I would expect similar things from Allen who also took second in the long jump.

Weight Throw

Another clear-cut race between the top two throwers. Darcie Marion and Brittany Casey both threw over 43 feet, beating third place by 7 feet.
