Training Blog: Lexa Barrott kicks off her season !

Last week: Took last week off due to minor injury. I swam for two hours everyday (near 200 laps) to cross train.

Week 1 - 8/10 through 8/16

Monday: Ran 6.5 miles at about 7:00 minute pace. I wanted to test my fitness from taking the week off. I also swam for an hour and a half with my teammates doing about 120 laps. My team and I swam three to four times a week this summer and I think it's really going to pay off throughout the season.

Tuesday: Ran 7 miles at 7:10 pace around Northville. Last day of summer conditioning as the official season starts tomorrow. Swam 100 laps in about an hour.

Wednesday: Official start of the season ran 6.5 miles at 6:55 pace with my teammates. We did an ab circuit afterwards and learned a few new hip exercises. Afterwards I swam 100 laps for an hour. Got a 30 minute massage later in the day.

Thursday: Ran Fartlek on our home course, Cass Benton (very hilly). Got four miles in plus 1.5 warm up and 1.5 cool down too and from course. Hip exercises after.

Friday: Recovery run with my teammates. This was our last run in Northville before we head up to camp on Sunday. We ran 5 miles total. Abs circuit in the afternoon.

Saturday: Took today off to get ready for camp. Went for an 'ice bath' in the Cedar River up north. It was freezing and definitely had the same effects (I hope). Also did a short abs circuit.

Sunday: First run at camp with my teammates we did 7.5 miles total and 6 miles tempo. Our camp is on Lake Michigan so went into the lake after. Our team is here until Friday. We do a lot of team bonding it's one of the teams favorite parts of the season.

Total weekly mileage: 39.5

Little bit lower on the mileage this week because I was coming off a slight injury. No pain anymore so I should be back up to proper mileage next week.
