Akron Kangaroo Relays - 1/19

Boys Results

North Akron ran well ahead of the rest of the Ohio teams, coming in second by only one-tenth of second to Pittsburg Central Catholic, in the 4x200 with a time of 1:32.82, which is the current leading time in Ohio.

In the 3200, Chase Violet (Lima-Shawnee) paced the field with a 9:49.79, which is currently the second fastest time in Ohio this year.

In the field events, Adam Holdsworth (Tuscarawas Valley) jumped 14'00" and is now tied for third in the state in the Pole Vault. Dustin Brode (Canfield) was a two time winner, winning both the shot and the weight throw. Dustin's toss in the shot put was 47'9.5", while his heave of 50'11.5" in the weight throw was good enough for the win and also fourth in the state currently.

Girls Results

While Akron is the only meet so far to run the 60 meter hurdles, Nicole Rymer (Medina) and Jenni Eichler (Waterloo) became the first and second girls to go under 10.50, with Rymer running a time of 10.11 seconds to Eichler's 10.36 seconds (both time were run in the prelims).

Warrensville Heights won both the 4x200 and the 4x400 with times of 1:47.69 and 4:08.77 respectively. In the 4x800, Medina set the tone with a 10:18.88, which is the current state leading time.

Kayle Caldwell (Indian Valley) easily won the pole vault with a jump of 12'00", this jump is six inches off of her state leading vault. Briana Strother (St. Peter Chanel) took home a first and a second place finish. Strother won the weight throw, throwing 38'5", while her throw of 32'6" in the shot was a few feet behind Yasmeen Akram's (Warennsville Heights) winning throw of 36'10.5".

 

Cedarville Yellow Jacket Early Bird - 1/19

Boys Results

Jordan Goffena (Sidney) started the season off on the right foot. Goffena won the 55 meter hurdles by a tenth of second over Jeff Rollins (Bellefontaine) with a time of 7.75 seconds, good enough to place him top five in the state right now. Goffena also finished third in the 400m with a time of 53.60 seconds, which ranks him in the top 15 so far in the state. Super Soph, Blake Heriot (Gahanna-Lincoln) won the 400m over Jamin Tunstall (Wayne), 52.52 to 53.27 seconds respectively.

Heriot was a three time winner, also winning the 55m and the 200m. In the 55m Heriot held off both Demoye Bogle (Wayne) and Stephen Curtis (Wayne) by running the second fastest time in the state this season with a 6.46 seconds, Bogle finished in with a time of 6.60 to Curtis' 6.62. During the 200m Heriot finished two-tenths of a second faster than Travis Jackson (Chaminade-Julienne) to finish with a time of 23.04 to Jackson's 23.24 seconds. Bogle was third in the 200m with a time of 23.32.

Senior, Danny Neff (Vandalia-Butler) pulled away from the lead pack with about 100m left in the 1600m to beat Galen Dills (Unioto) and Eric Schmidt (Centerville), 4:34.51 to Dills' 4:37.64 and Schmidt's 4:38.04. Schmidt would go on to dominate the 3200m race, breaking the meet record and beating the rest of the field, both by over 15 seconds. Schmidt's state leading time is 9:47.96.

In the relays, Centerville opened up strong in the 4x800 running an 8:35.52, while missing junior Shawn Roberts (basketball) and last year's alternate Eli Husfelt (illness). Kettering Fairmont finished second with a time of 8:55.16. In the 4x200, Wayne held off strong advances from both Withrow and Princeton. Wayne's time was 1:34.09 to Withrow's 1:35.07, and Princeton's 1:35.52. Princeton and Withrow again battled in the 4x400 with Princeton coming out on top in the last leg to win 3:39.30 to 3:41.74.

In the field events, John Grant (Chillicothe) soard 20'11" to win the long jump, while his 6'4" effort in the high jump was good enough for second behind Tyler McIntosh's (Hilliard Darby) jump of 6'6". Kevin Leland (Greenville), Austin Hicks (Olentangy) and Jack Greenlee (St. Xavier) made for an exciting pole vault competition, all three athletes vaulted 13'6".

Centerville opened up with a dominating performance in the weight throw, taking four of the top five spots. Curt Smith (Chillicothe) was able to pull off a third place finish with a throw of 49'4", which was just behind Jon Paul Krumm's (Centerville) toss of 49'6". Anthony Scholes (Centerville) was able to muster a 52'6" on his final throw to win the competition. Scholes' throw is just two inches off of his last year's 52'8" PR, which was the best returning throw in the state. Smith added to his third place finish by winning the shot put, 50'5" to Sam Longo's (Bellbrook) toss of 50'4. The shot was a heated competition with only three feet separating first and eighth place.

Girls Results

Cassandra Lloyd (Springfield South) opened her season up with a fast time in the 55m hurdles, running the prelims in 8.77 seconds. While her finals time was a little bit slower, Lloyd was still able to hang on to the win. Sam Patty (Turpin) had a fantastic meet, winning both the 1600m and the 3200m by impressive margins. In the 1600m Patty was able to pull away from Jill MacLeod (Kings) in the last half of the race to win 5:23.00 to 5:32.65. The 3200m was by far the more impressive race for Patty though, setting a new meet record by nearly 20 seconds and beating the field by over a minute. Patty's time in the 3200m of 11:26.50 is good enough to take over the top spot in the state this season.

The 4x200m was one easily by Withrow's squad, beating runner up Wayne, by over five seconds, 1:50.59 to 1:56.23.

Sarah Vonderbrink (Kettering Fairmont) opened up big, going 5'6, to take a share of the lead in the state, and bettering her jump from last year's regional by three inches.

In the throws Emily Niehaus (Kings) took home a first and third place finish. Niehaus was first in the weight throw with a toss of 43'10", good enough for second in the state so far this season, and in the shot put, Niehaus throw of 37'0" was just behind runner up Katie Gerhardt's (Cedarville High School) throw of 37'1". Amy Evans (Urbana) won the meet by a foot with a throw of 38'1".

Kent State HS Open #1 - 1/19

Boys Results

Carlin Isles (Massillon-Jackson) had quite a performance on the track this weekend. Isles won both the 55m and the 200m, and posted state leading times in both events. Isles time of 6.36 was also good to capture a top ten spot in MileSplit's national rankings in the 55m dash. In the 200m, Isles time of 22.34 was good for a top twenty time in MileSplit's national rankings. William Henry (Trotwood-Madison) ran a blazing 49.69 in the 400m, which was good enough for second place to Varick Tucker of the club team Michigan Accelerators. Henry's time is the only sub 50 second time thus far in the young indoor season in Ohio, and puts him at the top of the Ohio leaderboard for the season. Mitchell Seawood's (Warren G Harding) prelim time of 7.64 seconds in the 55m hurdles puts him in second place in the state right now in that event.

The 800m was blazing fast for this early in the season, seven athletes went sub 2-minute in the half mile, with four of the athletes from Ohio. Cory Leslie (Perkins) won the 800m with a time of 1:55.50, followed by Spencer Shewbridge (Medina) in 1:58.57. Chad Nickson (Trotwood-Madison), 1:59.60, and Matt Moore (Boardman), 1:59.77, rounded out the sub 2-minute runners.

Trotwood-Madison had a great showing in the relays, being the first Ohio High School across the line in each of the three relays. Trotwood Madison took home first place in the 4x800 with a time of 8:09:.03, and followed that up by being runner up in both the 4x200 and 4x400 to the Michigan Accelerators, a club team. Trotwood's 4x200 time of 1:32.94 is only behind North-Akron in the state, and both their 4x400 and 4x800 times lead the state currently. Trotwood's 4x400 time of 3:21.46 actually leads not only the state, but is also tops in the MileSplit national rankings for high school teams.

Caleb Mathews' (Boardman) leap of 21'8.5" currently leads the state in the long jump, while Ruben Belen's (Medina) jump of 6'6" puts him in a tie for third in the state in the high jump. Both Mathews' and Belen's jumps were good for first place in their respective events.

Drew Ebersole (Midview) was able to out throw Bryce Indermuhle (Smithville) 54'10" to 53'9" to win the shot put. Their throws are currently 2nd and 4th best, respectively, in the state.

Girls Results

Mahagony Jones (Rhodes) proved that she was the real deal this weekend, opening up in a state leadig time of 7.15 seconds to win the 55m dash, which also places her in the top 15 in the MileSplit national rankings. Her time of 25.95 seconds in the 200m was second only to Elise Glass's 25.59 of the club team Michigan Accelerators. Amber Smith (Collinwood) won the 55m hurdles with a state leading time of 8.51 seconds to runner up, Karissa Dalessandro's (Smithville) 8.73.

Through three weekends in the Ohio Indoor season, no female has run a sub 60-second 400 yet, but speedy sophomore KaChay Hullum (Firestone) has come the closest, going 60.10 seconds to take control of the state leaderboard. Christain Johnson (Cleveland Heights) easily won the 800m in a time of 2:21.26, setting herself nearly eight seconds apart from the rest of the state. Johnson also won the mile with a state leading time of 5:22.41.

In the relays, Collinwood was the first Ohio High School team to cross the finish line, but finished second in each of the three relays. In the 4x200, Collinwood ran the state leading time 1:45.46 to finish less than a second behind the club team Michigan Accelerators. The Michigan Accelerators also won the 4x400 by less than half a second over Collinwood. Collinwood's time of 4:06.09 is also a state leading performance. Collinwood also finished second in the 4x800 to Pennsylvania's Baldwin High School.

Korrey Willis (Lake Catholic) was the first female in the state to join the 40' club, throwing 41'3" to easily win the shot put over Kaitlyn Griffith (Orrville), who threw 39'6. Camai Brandenberg (Gahanna-Lincoln) joined Sarah Vonderbrink of Kettering Fairmont at the top of the leader board in the high jump, going 5'6" for a first place finish.

Oberlin College HS Meet #1 - 1/19

Boys Results

Matt Hoty (Perkins) turned in the biggest performance of the day, easily winning the shot put by more than eleven feet with a toss of 54'7". Hoty's throw ranks him second in the state right now, and tops for a lower division school.

In the 200m John James (John Adams) beat out Blake Witherspoon (Southview) at the line with a time of 23.36 seconds to Witherspoon's 23.42. While in the 400m Keith Cleveland (Shaker Heights) escaped with a win by beating Willie Brown (John Adams) by less than a tenth of a second. Cleveland ran a 52.90 second 400m to Brown's 52.99.

Girls Results

The Shaker Heights girls 4x200 ran away from the competition, winning the race by nearly ten seconds, in a time of 1:50.15.

Keyonna Bonner (John Adams) won the 55m dash with a time of 7.53 seconds in the finals, her prelim time was slightly faster, 7.48. Bonner also took home a silver in the 200m, Shaniqua McGinnis (Shaker Heights), 27.70 seconds to McGinnis' 26.47 winning time. McGinnis was a two time winner, besides winning the 200m, she also won the 400m with a time of 61.18 seconds. - 1/20

The Univesity of Findlay High School Invite-Div I - 1/19

Boys Results

In a meet dominated by club teams, many great performances were turned in by Ohio High School athletes. Princeton Bryson (Bowsher) opened up the meet by running a blazing 6.53 in the 55m dash, winning the finals and claiming the fourth spot on the Ohio leaderboards. Da Jon Booth (Rogers), the current state leader in the 55m hurdles finished first in the finals with a time of 7.75, just edging out Robert Jones (Cuyahoga Falls) who ran a 7.76 in the finals. Bryson also finished second in the 200m with a time of 23.22, while Booth was fourth in a time of 23.66.

Erik Kynard (Rogers) improved on his already US-leading jump, by going 7'3.75" in the high jump. Kynard is now just and inch and half off of the national high school record.

In the shot put four different throwers went over 50'. State leader Darren Bass (Lima Senior) won the shot with a throw of 55'1", followed by Jacob Hyland (Lima Central Catholic), 52'4.25". Super Soph Justin Welch (Eastwood) finished third by throwinf 51'3" and Lucas Ferguson (Mt. Vernon) rounded out the 50' party by throwing exactly 50'0".

Welch also won the weight throw, going 52'5.25" to beat his teamate Alex Hernandez and Lima Senior's Melvin Washington, who both threw 52'2.5". Ferguson again placed fourth with a toss of 46'6.5"

Girls Results

They should have called this the Julie Snyder Meet at the University of Findlay. Julie Snyder (Celina) took home a first, a second and a third place finish, but in each event Snyder was best athlete not on a club team. Snyder placed third in the 55m hurdles, finishing in 8.91 seconds, which was good enough to tie for fourth place in the state. In the high jump, Snyder went 5'4" to finish second. Snyder won the long jump with a leap of 16'8.75, Snyder currently sits in second place in the state with a previous jump from this season of 17'3.75".

Kristen Altenburger (Troy) easily won the 3200m in a time of 11:54.04, which gives her the second fastest time in the state this season.

The Bowsher girls 4x200 team finished second to the St. Louis Blues Track Club, but still managed to put up the number two time in Ohio currently with a 1:47.48 performance.

Erin Pendleton (Woodmore) carried on where her sister left off (Emily is now in college) by winning both throwing events. Pendleton's throw of 38'9" sits her in the number three spot in Ohio thus far, while her toss of 47'11" in the weight throw puts her firmly a top the state leader board.

The Univesity of Findlay High School Invite-Div II & III - 1/20

Boys Results

Dunbar proved that they were going to be a team to contend with this year in Track and Field, especially in the sprints and relays. Dunbar won all three relays, the 4x200 in 1:34.22, the 4x400 in 3:40.46, and the 4x800 in 9:03.3. Besides the relays, Dunbar went two-three-four in the 55m dash, place third and seventh in the 55m hurdles, finished first and second in the 200m, went two-three in the 400m, and even placed third in the 800m.

Daniel Lombardo (Lima Central Catholic) won the 55m dash with a 6.60 performance, but hot on his heels were a trio of runners from Dunbar, Terrance Glenn, William Oliver, and Antione Parks finished with times of 6.67, 6.70, and 6.75 seconds respectively. Glenn would also finish seventh in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds, and first in the 200m, running a 23.70. Parks finished second in the 200m with a 23.93 performance.

Dunbar's other placers were Richard Hunt, third place in the 55m hurdles, running a 7.95 in the prelims and a 8.06 in the finals. Devin Bibbs finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:13.50. Aaron Bibbs and Theron Ham went two-three in the 400, running a 53.47 and a 53.87 respectively. Curtis Smithey (Elmwood) won the 400m with a time of 52.55.

Michael Volkman (Arcbold) and Drew Holbrook (Woodmore) battled all the way to the finish in the 800m, however Volkman was able to cross the line just a quarter of a second faster than Holbrook, 2:10.35 to 2:10.60 respectively.

Track and Field stud Gray Horn (Waynesfield-Goshen) had another outstanding meet. Horn did not run in the finals of the 55m hurdles, but did have the fastest prelim time with a 7.79 effort (Bryce Bergman of New Bremen would win the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.77). Horn won both the long jump, 21'2.75", and the pole vault, 14'6", by pretty sizable margins.

Ryan Fleck (Napolean) captured the high jump title by jumping 6'8", which is currently second on the state leaderboard for the season.

Austin Levering (River Valley-Caldonia) took home a first place finish in the shot put, edging out Derrick Vicars (Delta), 50'11" to 50'3".

Girls Results

Shanekqau Stallworth (Dunbar) won the 55m dash with a time of 7.43, good enough for fourth place on the state leaderboard.

Andrea Glenn (Springfield Shawnee) won both the 400m and the 800m with times of 63.85 and 2:35.43 respectively.

Sarah Gearheart (Fredericktown) won the high jump by four inches going 5'2", which is good enough for a top five place on the state leaderboard. Cami Wasserman (Lakota) won the pole vault by a foot, vaulting 10'6" and tying for second on the state leaderboard.

Also of note, Findlay Liberty-Benton won all three of the relay races.

Marietta College HS Open Meet #2 - 1/20

Boys Results

Cameron Fehrman (Meadowbrook) won the 400m, 53.91 to 54.37 seconds over runner up Robin Baisden (Watkins Memorial).

Joseph Paulucci (Fischer Catholic) won the weight throw by a little more than six feet with a heave of 50'0.5".

Austin Hicks (Olentangy) went six inches above his competition and above his performance at the Cedarville meet the day before.

Joey Wheeler (Shenandoah) won the long jump by thirteen inches, sailing 21'5.5" to Bryan Gaiters' (Zanesville) jump of 20'4.5".

Girls Results

Courtney Greer (Morgan) was a two time winner, taking the top spot in both the shot put, 33'7.5", and the weight throw 31'4.75".
