Nick Foster Records US No. 2 Time At April Showers Relays

Nick Foster / Ann Arbor Pioneer

Nick Foster posted an exceptional time of 4:08.16 to claim the 1600m race win at Saturday's April Showers Relays, which took place in Dexter.  The Ann Arbor Pioneer junior resides on top of the Michigan leaderboard due to this effort and his result also represents a new pr and a US No. 2 for the 2018 outdoor season.  He finished eleven seconds ahead of the state's No. 2 ranked 1600m athlete, Anthony Dekraker of Saline.  Foster, who trails only New Mexico's Jericho Cleveland (4:07.89) in the overall national standings, is the top ranked junior in the country.

MileSplit Michigan tracked down Nick to gain some more insight on his excellent performance.

I was really looking forward to this meet because due to recent weather-related cancellations, I had extra time to prepare.  Coach Sleeman, who is in his 50th season at Pioneer, told me to get out quick and run strong throughout the whole race and to just see what I could do.  I did what he said and I really relaxed throughout the race.  I was hoping to run a fast time because I split 4:06.7 last month at New Balance Nationals Indoor, but I have never run an open race within six seconds of that time.  It was a perfect day and I was excited to finally get a chance to run in good weather!  I'm very excited to see what the rest of the season has in store.
