Summer Training Blog: Ann Arbor Pioneer's Nick Foster

Nick Foster enters the 2018 cross country season as Michigan's second ranked returning athlete due to his 15:13.20 showing at last September's SEC Jamboree #2 - Red meet.

The rising senior from Ann Arbor Pioneer had an outstanding junior year, as he claimed the MSHAA State Championship LP - 1 victory and followed that up with a twelfth place finish at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional in Wisconsin.

Foster will begin the XC campaign full of confidence after securing the 2 Mile race win at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in June by virtue of his 8:59.46 performance.  He also earned a runner-up finish in the 1 Mile at the Brooks PR Invitational and a first place effort in the 3200 at the MHSAA State Championship LP - 1 during his stellar track season.

Check out Nick's breakdown of his training from last week.

Monday - 8/6:

Our team did a relaxed distance run on Monday at about 6:45 pace.  The total run was 8.75 miles.

Tuesday - 8/7:

I ran to practice today and then did another relaxed run at about 6:45 pace.  Total run was 11 miles.

Wednesday - 8/8:

Today we had two practices.  In the morning, I did 8x800m on the track with 400m running rest.  I started out pretty easy and worked my way down from 2:29's and finished it up with a 2:15.  The second practice was an easy run on our cross country course.  Total for the day was 13.2 miles.

Thursday - 8/9:

Today was another 2-a-day with both runs being about 6 miles.  After the second run, I hit a fast 400 in 56 seconds just to get the turnover going.  Total for the day was 12.2.

Friday - 8/10:

I ran to practice again today and then did a run with the team at about 7 min pace.  Total run was 9.31 miles.

Saturday - 8/11:

I'm in Northern Michigan, so today I had a fun run while my cousins biked along with me.  I dropped the pace down to 5:55 and then finished up the run with a couple of miles in the woods.  My average pace was 6:15.  Total run was 8 miles.

Sunday - 8/12:

Today, I just did a quick run before we got ready to head back home at about 6:30 pace.  Total was 5.44 miles.
