Udodi Onwzurike Drops Latest Sub-21 Effort In The 200m

Brother Rice senior and Stanford University signee Udodi Onwuzurike had a career race on Saturday at the Michigan Indoor Track Series State Championships in Ypsilanti, authoring a US No. 3 time of 20.90 seconds for 200 meters.

Incredibly, it is now the third time under the 21-second barrier in 2021. Onwuzurike, who also owns a US No. 1 time in the 55m of 6.25 seconds, clocked the sixth-fastest performance of all-time, tying him with Mario Heslop, who ran 20.90 in 2019 at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

While that time officially is the fastest indoor performance in Michigan history, it will not break an official state record, as marks are only counted on 200 meter tracks. In that respect, Fenton's Brandon Miller, who was second to Onwuzurike in 21.3 seconds, still owns the state indoor record of 21.18 seconds.
