Tori Franklin details her marvelous performance in the triple jump

Tori Franklin has officially arrived... well actually she has been here. The former Downers Grove South High School prep standout via Michigan State University is now a budding star for NIKE in the triple jump. Franklin's ascent started with a series of national and international experiences including earning the title of Olympian in the 2020 Toyko Olympics last year because of Covid-19.

After breaking the American indoor and outdoor national records, the vivaciously spirited Franklin has literally soared to new heights in the sport. It was a ninth-place finish at the 2019 World Championship in Doha and a 25th-place effort in Toyko that set up a historical performance in Eugene, Oregon.

On Monday evening at historic Hayward Field, Franklin tangled with the best in the world. Reigning world champion and world record holder Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela was in the clear, so Franklin dueled with Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica and Leyanis Perez Hernandez of Cuba for either silver or the bronze medal.

Frankin sat in the top five outside of the medal stand for most of the competition despite having three fouls on her series card. Finally, with an energetic full house of fans on its collective feet, Franklin roared down the runway on her fifth attempt... and BAM! It was an epic star banner moment as she leaped frog into history with a 14.72 metric (48'3.50") mark and into third place, ahead of Hernandez. It would stand through the final sixth round and Franklin jetting off as the first American woman to earn a leap-frog medal at the World Championships.
