Senior
Beata Gorzynska (Ilawa, Poland/Mazurski of Olsztynie) was the top Titan runner for the fourth time this season as the women's cross country team placed 29th with 882 points at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Indiana University on Saturday afternoon.
The finish was a three-spot improvement from last season and also marked a 73-point difference from 2008.
“It was great to improve, but a bit disappointed as we did not get where we had hoped,” said head coach Guy Murray, who was at the regional for the 25th-straight year as a student-athlete and now coach.
Gorzynska, who came into the season looking like the No. 5 runner on the team, finished 132nd in 23:32, her best regional appearance by 72 spots as well as 2:23 faster then her previous career best in 2007.
Freshman
Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) recovered from an early fall to take 175th in 24:33.
“Just a great year for Beata and nice way to finish up the season,” said Murray. “Alexandria did such a nice job to recover from her fall at 600m and those can be tough to recover from.”
Sophomore
Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) was seven spots higher then her rookie run finishing 182nd in 24:39, while junior
Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe) bettered her freshman run by 1:04 to take 191st with a time of 24:50.
Sophomore
Kirstin Mooney (Stirling, ON/St. Theresa Catholic) was 207th in 25:31 and senior
Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North), running in her last cross country race at UDM, crossed the finish line in 26:06 for 212th.
The Titan harriers will now turn their attention to the track season, which gets underway in early December.
