CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Matt Hammersmith (Wolcottville, Mich.-Prairie Heights) has been named to the 2009 Mid-American Conference Men's Cross Country All-Academic squad, the league office announced Thursday, Dec. 3.
Hammersmith, a 3.88 GPA in physical education, finished in the top 21 in every race to help close the gap for the Eagles. After a 21st place finish at the Spartan Invitational, Hammersmith followed it up with a 12th place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational, finishing just five seconds out of a top 10 finish with a time of 25:17. At the Michigan Intercollegiate, Hammersmith place 13th with a time of 25:48. Hammersmith earned second-team All-MAC accolades after taking 10th 26:18.6 at the 2009 MAC Championship in Athens, Ohio.
