YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Coming off a sixth place finish at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship, Oct. 31, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will send its top seven runners to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday, Nov. 14, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. The women's 6,000-meter event is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.

Admission to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional for cross country will be free of charge. Due to limited space, parking at the course will be available for $10.

The Eagles will look to improve on their performance at last year's Great Lakes Regional in West Lafayette, Ind., as the team placed 23rd overall (out of 34) with 614 points.

EMU is coming off a sixth place finish at the 2009 MAC Cross Country Championship at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, the Eagles' best finish since the 2000 season when EMU placed third overall in Kalamazoo, Mich.

True freshman Courtney Calka (Livonia, Mich.-Stevenson) continued to add to her already impressive freshman campaign in the Eagles' last race, as Calka placed sixth overall in Athens with a time of 22:35.6. Calka earned first-team All-MAC accolades for her performance, while also earning the praises of head coach Sue Parks.

I am very proud of [Calka] for finishing sixth and attaining first-team All-MAC honors in her first MAC outing," Parks said. “She went for the win rather than running a safe race which shows the kind the guts and courage that she has.”

Finishing behind Calka in the second position at the MAC Championship was junior Beverly Elock (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Northrop), who finished with a time of 23:30.0 to place 22nd overall.

Sophomores Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven) and Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen) ran in the third and fourth positions in EMU last race, as Webb placed 36th overall with a time of 23:58.4, while Hollinger-Janzen was eight spots behind in 44th place with a time of 24:08.4. It was Webb who paced the Eagles at last year's Great Lakes Regional, as she was the first EMU harrier to cross the finish line, taking 67th with a time of 22:46.0, which was a career-best.

Freshmen Tiffany Kincaid (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston), Rachel Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) and senior Jackie Ellis (Lebanon, Ohio-Lebanon-Hope College) rounded out EMU's top seven runners at the MAC Championship, as they finished 49th, 58th, and 62nd, respectively. Quaintance ran a solid race last week at the Toledo Open, as she led all EMU harriers with a third place finish with a time of 18:17.
