TOLEDO
, Ohio
(EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team officially closed its regular season campaign Friday, Nov. 6, as the Eagles competed in the Toledo Rocket Open at Ottawa Park Golf Course.

The Eagles were led by freshman Rachel Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) and sophomore Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind.-Goshen), who paced EMU with third and fourth place finishes, respectively. Quaintance finished with a time of 18:17, while Hollinger-Janzen wasn't far behind at 18:21.

"It was a good day for us," said EMU head coach Sue Parks. "The course was fast, the weather was perfect, and the girls were ready to compete.  I'm especially happy for Rachel Quaintance, as she has worked very hard all season long and it finally clicked for her in this race.  I think that she will now have the confidence to be a strong contributor to the team at regionals."

Senior Megan Flewelling (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Powers Catholic) was the next EMU harrier to cross the finish line, as she placed 11th overall with a time of 18:51.

True freshman Christina Farrow (Rochester Hills, Mich.- Renaissance) was the next Eagle runner to finish, as she placed 14th with a time of 19:01.

Freshmen Cassie Coffman (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) and Beth Zimpfer (Maplewood, Ohio-Jackson Center) were the next Eagles to finish, as they placed 20th and 25th, respectively.

True freshman Lauren Lunsford (Miamisburg, Ohio-Miamisburg) finished 34th, running an unattached time of 21:15.

The Eagles now prepare for the 2009 Great Lakes Regional, which is slated for Nov. 14 in Terre Haute, Ind. on the campus of Indiana State University. The women's 6,000-meter event is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.
