Freshmen
Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti) and
Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) have both made an instant impact as rookies and today, both Titans were named Horizon League Athletes of the Week.
Smalley was the highest finisher for Detroit at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open by taking third in the 600-meters in 1:24.43. He also ran on the 4x400-meter relay squad that earned sixth in 3:32.82.
Patterson made his collegiate debut over the weekend and took ninth in the long competition with a mark of 6.49m/21'3.5".
Detroit will get a chance to regroup as the indoor season will pick back up again on Friday, Dec, 15, when the red, white and blue take part in a Quad Meet against CMU, EMU and Oakland in Ypsilanti.
