The UDM Athletic Department will participate in National Girls & Women in Sports Day on Feb. 6, when a series of on-campus events, including a free Detroit Titans home women's basketball game, will be hosted by the University.

The 2010 version of National Girls and Women in Sports Day will celebrate 24 years of an annual event that brings attention to the success of Title IX and the thousands of opportunities it has provided young girls in the United States since its enactment in 1971.

All girls in grades 3 through 8 are invited to be part of an exciting schedule of events, starting with an 11:00 a.m. sports clinic at Calihan Hall, where student-athletes from nearly all of UDM's varsity teams will provide skill instruction and hands-on demonstrations. Titan strength and conditioning coaches will also be in attendance to provide information on healthy lifestyle choices, fitness, and nutrition for young women.

Autumn Rademacher
, Detroit's head women's basketball coach, will be on hand during the clinic to welcome all participants and talk about the importance sports and college athletics has played in her life. Rademacher played women's basketball at UDM and graduated in 1997.

Following the sports clinic, the Titan women's basketball team hosts Milwaukee at 2:00 p.m., followed by an autograph session for all those in attendance.

The cost of the program is FREE, and all participants will receive free tickets (including their families) for the basketball game. In addition, all attendees will receive a FREE hot dog, chips and bottled water (no substitutions).

"This will be a terrific event for all female sports and female athletes in southeast Michigan," said UDM Assistant AD and Senior Woman Administrator Teri Kromrei. "It recognizes the importance that sports and physical fitness plays in the lives of young girls."

Registration for the events starts at 10:00 a.m., but advance registration is recommended. Anyone interested can contact Michelle Cordero at (313) 993-1700 or by e-mail at michelle.cordero@udmercy.edu.
