YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will compete tonight, Jan. 15, 2010, in a quad meet against Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan University, the University of Detroit Mercy and Oakland University. The meet will be scored as three dual meets, giving Eastern the potential to walk away 3-0 after tonight's competition.

» EAGLES RETURN VETERAN CREW: The men's indoor track and field team returns 36 runners from last years' squad, including 13 seniors/graduate students.

» ALL-MAC, ALL DAY: The Eagles return seven All-MAC first or second teamers from last year. Gerald Gersham, Kevin Lanier, Kyle Fortin, Akeem Forde, Nate Blackwell, Blake Figgins and Xavier Clais all return to competition after very successful 2009 seasons.

» BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS 'EM: Clint Allen posted the fastest time in the MAC in the 60-meter dash in 2009 with a time of 6.77 seconds as he sprinted toward a conference championship in the event. The senior also started his 2010 campaign off right, posting a time of 6.72 seconds, the best time in the MAC this year and the second fastest time in the nation.

» SPEAKING OF RECORDS...: At the EMU Invitational on Jan. 9, Eagle senior Gerald Gersham broke a school record in the shot put with a throw of 62-01.25. It bested former Eastern thrower Dave Adamek's toss of 61-11.00.

» AND THE AWARD GOES TO...: For Gersham's record-setting performance in the EMU Invitational, he was awarded the MAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending  Jan. 10, 2010. Also, jumper Walther Oliver took home the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week the same week. He won the long jump with leap of 23-03.25 at the EMU Invitational. The senior jumper from Germany is a finance major and is currently carrying a 3.92 GPA.

» EMU ON TRACK IN THE MAC: Since the Mid-American Conference began awarding a title for indoor track in 1996, the EMU men's track team has won 12 out of 13 possible titles. The lone loss came in 2005 when Central Michigan took the win and the Eagles finished third.

» EAGLES ADD TO STAFF: Both the men's and women's track team have added an additional member to the coaching ranks as Andy Nicholas takes over as the throws coach for each program. Nicholas is quite familiar with the MAC and its track and field programs. A 2007 graduate of Kent State, he was a back-to-back MAC champion in the hammer throw and an All-American during his senior season.

» EAGLE REWIND: The EMU men's track team took home its third consecutive indoor MAC title to conclude the 2008 season, but had an unsuccessful defense in 2009. The Eagles won by a convincing 83 points, the most in MAC history, during their '08 title and look to return to dominant form in 2010. In 2009, the team collected 10 MAC championships and boasted nine All-MAC athletes.
