Titans Down Oakland In Quad Meet

In its first full action as a team in the indoor season, the Detroit men's track and field program defeated Oakland, 66-62, in a Quad Meet featuring host Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan on Friday evening at the Bob Parks Track in Bowen Fieldhouse. 

Juniors Earnest Cleary (Detroit, MI/Ferndale) and Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) recorded the best finishes on the night with two runner-up efforts. Cleary was just edged in the 60-meters, running a 6.89, just .08 seconds behind the winner, while Hanna posted a 49.85 in the 400-meters. 

Freshman Vincent Lefler (Midland, MI/Midland) was third in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.54 and followed that with a 12th-place finish in the 200m in 24.06.

Freshman Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti) was third in the long jump with a leap of 6.61m/21-08.25 and fourth in the triple with a mark of 12.04m/39-06.00.

Junior Pat Liederbach (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) led a trio of Titans in the top nine in the mile, placing fourth with a time of 4:16.26. Senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) nailed a personal record with a fifth-place finish in 4:21.75 and junior Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) ran a 4:29.91 for ninth.

In the high jump, Hanna tied for third with a leap of 1.95m/6-04.75, while Jeffrey Senecal (North Baltimore, OH/North Baltimore) took sixth with a 1.80m/5-10.75 tally.

Senior Deonte Osayande (Detroit, MI/Wingate) claimed sixth in the 60m in a swift 7.05. Sophomore Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) ran a 23.14 for seventh in the 200m and a 7.14 for 10th in the 60m.

Sophomore Joe LaRocca (Eastpointe, MI/De LaSalle Collegiate) turned in a fine performance in the 400m, posting a time of 51.75 for seventh, while freshman Joesph Raffin (Valparaiso, IN/Chesterton) took ninth in 52.57.

Sophomore Aviram Campbell (Yale, MI/Yale) earned fifth in the 60mH, crossing the finish line at 8.67, with freshmen Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) and Derek Baker (Carleton, MI/Airport) right behind him in 8.90 and 9.08 placing sixth and seventh, respectively.

UDM will stay in-state for its next meet as the Titans participate in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, held at the University of Michigan. The two-day event gets underway on Friday at the U-M Indoor Track.
