YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team made quick work of its three opponents Friday, Jan. 15, as it earned victories over the University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland University, and Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan University in the only scored home meet of the 2010 indoor season for the Eagles.

Gerald Gersham (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield) and Andrew Meyer (Minster, Ohio-Minster) got the scoring started for the Eagles, as the throwers took first and third place, respectively, in the weight throw. The duo followed up with first and second place finishes in the shot put. Gersham used a 59-01.25 toss to capture the victory, while Meyer would wrap up second place with a 51-11.25 foot toss.

Xavier Clais (Hanvillers, France) would take the high jump portion of the meet, clearing a height of 6-08.25 feet.

Also in the field, Oliver Walther (Erfrut, Germany), fresh off of his MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week Award, captured another victory in the long jump with a leap of 23-03.25 feet, tying his season-best jump. With a jump of 46-04.25, Walther snagged another victory in the triple jump.

On the track, the Eagles showed why they are so highly touted, winning six of the seven events. In the 60-meter dash, junior Clint Allen (Muskegon, Mich.-Orchard View), who posted the nation's second fastest time this year at the EMU Invitational last week, turned on the jets and notched 6.81 second victory. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash while his teammate Akeem Forde (Haynesville, Barbados-Colleridge & Parry School) earned top honors with a sub-22 second run. Forde also took the 400 with a first-place finish of 49.29 seconds.

Eagle runners crossed the line one, two and three in the mile, and the relay team won the 4x400, finishing less than half a second ahead of CMU. In the 800-meter run, senior David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's) won the event, finishing just ahead of his teammate in a time of 1:52.89. Hurdler freshman Vanier Joseph notched his first collegiate victory as he won the 60-meter hurdle in a time of 8.07.
