Senior jumper Oliver Walther wins MAC award for second consecutive week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior track and field athlete Oliver Walther (Erfurt, Germany / Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium) was announced as the MAC Male Field Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference for the week ending Jan. 17, 2010.

Walther, who was named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week last week,  won the men's long jump and triple jump during a quad meet this past Friday, Jan. 15, at Bob Parks Track. With a long jump leap of 23-03.25 and a triple jump of 46-04.25, Walther out-jumped competitors from Oakland University, Detroit and Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan University.

The MAC Athlete of the Week is awarded weekly to the athlete who displays the most outstanding performance, as determined by the MAC Track and Field Bylaws and an executive committee which votes for athletes of the week.

The Eagles return to competition Saturday, Jan. 23, when they head to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Harvey-Simmons Invitational.
