27th Annual Don Wright Team Challenge Full Results
Senior
Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) celebrated her 23rd birthday in style with a victory as the Titans competed in the 27th Annual Don Wright Team Challenge, held at the University of Western Ontario. The Titans finished in second place on the day.
Horne won the event with a throw of 17.13m, setting a new meet record in the process as she eclipsed the old standard of 16.08m. Horne also took fourth in the shot put with an 11.89m heave.
The 4x800-meter relay nearly came away with a win as the team of senior
Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North), junior
Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON/St. Theresa Catholic) and rookies
Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI/Southwestern Academy) and
Katie Weishaar (Plymouth, MI/Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard) were runner-ups in 9:44.83, the eighth best run in Titan history.
Junior
Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI/Belleville) was third in the 300-meters in 43.00, while senior
Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH/Zanesville) placed third in the 600m with a time of 1:39.49, good for sixth on the UDM top 10 list.
The open 300m saw freshman
Melissa Zuteck (Sterling Heights, MI/Sterling Heights) take fourth in 44.93, just ahead of fifth place
Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI/Whitmore Lake), who crossed the finish line at 44.97. Smid also made her collegiate debut in the high jump, clearing 1.50m to tie for fourth, while freshmen
Whitney Rogers (Flint, MI/Hamady) and
Amanda Campbell (Lockport, NY/Lockport) shared seventh with a mark of 1.45m.
In the 60-meter hurdles, senior
Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI/Paw Paw) led three Titans in the top six with a third-place finish in 9.98m. Freshman
Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI/Romulus) was fourth at 10.01 and Campbell took sixth at 10.23.
Schinske also earned fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.98m, just in front of sixth-place
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell), as the sophomore recorded a 4.92m mark.
Junior
Jasmin Webb (Detroit, MI/Mumford) ran an 8.21 for fourth in the 60m, while freshman
Amanda Hollern (Grand Rapids, MI/Catholic Central) was sixth at 8.24.
The 1500m produced three personal records as freshman
Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) posted a 5:05.51 for fifth, while rookie
Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) (5:05.89) and sophomore
Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) (5:06.59) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
The 3000k saw junior
Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe) earn third in a time of 10:55.45. Senior
Beata Gorzynska (Ilawa, Poland/Mazurski of Olsztynie) was fourth at 11:02.49, while sophomore
Kristina Arko (Euclid, OH/Euclid) set a career mark of 11:25.27 to take sixth.
Detroit will get right back to work on Friday as the Titans head to Allendale to run in the GVSU Open.
