Every time a race was over, there seemed to be a Titan in the top five as the UDM women's track and field team ran in the Grand Valley State Open on Friday evening.
Detroit had 11 top five finishes on the day and four runner-up efforts.
Freshman
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) was second in both the long (4.96m/16'3") and triple jumps (10.86m/35'7"), while
Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, MI/Marine City) was runner up in the 3000-meters in a personal record 10:35.92.
Junior
Sequoyia Calhoun (Belleville, MI/Belleville) placed second in the 200m with a time of 26.52 and was fourth in the 400m in 59.06.
Senior
Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) threw her way to a third-place finish in the weight in 16.77m/55'1" and eighth in the shot put with a heave of 12.33m/40'5".
Sophomore
Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) set a new career time by 26 seconds finishing fourth in the 3000m in 10:40.41, while sophomore
Kristina Arko (Euclid, OH/Euclid) hit an indoor PR in the 5000m taking fifth in 19:48.48.
The 60m featured freshman
Nikia Duncan (Murrieta, CA/Murrieta) earn fifth in 8.23, while rookie
Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI/Romulus) was 13th in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 10.08.
Sophomore
Monica Betker (Mecosta, MI/Chippewa Hills) was sixth in the pole vault clearing 2.75m/9' and freshman
Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI/Whitmore Lake) was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.47m/4'9"
The 800m saw four Titans claim top 11 spots with three personal records. Senior
Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North) was the top Titan, taking fifth in 2:19.90, a PR as well as the fifth-best time in school history.
Freshman
Sarah Martinez (Grand Blanc, MI/Flint Powers) was ninth in an indoor personal best 2:22.45, while sophomore
Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON/St. Theresa Catholic) was 10th in 2:22.48 and freshman
Tressanique Hampton (Flint, MI/Southwestern Academy) took 11th in a career indoor time of 2:22.94.
Detroit had two teams registered in the 4x400-meter relay as DeFauw, Calhoun, Hampton and senior
Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH/Zanesville) placed fourth in 3:58.58, the third-fastest indoor time in school history as well as the fastest non-Horizon League championship tally.
The quartet of Kalkstein, Mooney, Smid and freshman
Amanda Hollern (Grand Rapids, MI/Catholic Central) finished fifth in 4:06.97.
The red, white and blue will be idle next week before returning to Allendale to compete in Grand Valley State's Big Meet on Feb. 12-13.
