EMU Men's Track Head Coach Brad Fairchild Resigns

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Veteran Eastern Michigan University men's track and field Head Coach Brad Fairchild has announced his resignation after he had been confronted with recent NCAA violations. His resignation is effective Feb. 3, 2010. John Goodridge, the men's track and field assistant coach and head men's cross country coach, will handle the head coaching duties on an interim basis.

"After meeting with Brad Fairchild concerning NCAA rules violations it was determined that he would resign from his postiion as head coach of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team," EMU Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg said. "The NCAA violations resulted from inadequate record keeping and did not result in any competitive advantage to the institution."

Fairchild had been previously suspended for two weeks during the 2008 indoor season for similar rules violations.

The 42-year-old Fairchild was starting his 10th season as the head coach of the EMU men's track and field program. He joined the EMU men's track staff in 1993 as an assistant to veteran Head Coach Bob Parks. Fairchild took over the head coaching duties when Parks announced his retirement in 2001.
