EMU Adds Two to Men's Track Program

Tiberia Patterson and Cliff Larkins are both EMU track alums

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Two former Eastern Michigan University track and field letterwinners are returning to campus to assist the men's track and field program.

Former hurdling standout Tiberia Patterson will be an interim assistant coach while Cliff Larkins will become a volunteer assistant coach under interim men's Head Track and Field Coach John Goodridge.

A product of Detroit Catholic Central H.S. and a 1994 EMU graduate, Patterson won three Mid-American Conference indoor and two outdoor high hurdle titles for the Eagles. He earned All-American honors in the 55-meter high hurdles after placing in the 1994 NCAA Indoor Championship.

Larkins graduated from EMU in 1971 and went on to earn a master's degree at the University of Michigan in 1975 and completed work on his Ph.D. at Michigan State University in 1987.

Larkins was a standout triple jumper and long jumper for EMU from 1967-71. He qualified for the 1970 NCAA Indoor National Championship at Cobo Hall in Detroit and was the first EMU competitor to break the 50-foot barrier and was the first triple jump All-American. Larkins was also a member of the 1971 EMU NAIA National Championship team.
