Hanna Wins 400m In HL Tune-Up

The Detroit men's track and field team got one last meet in before the Horizon League Championships and it was on the same track it will run in next week as the Titans competed in the Silverston Invitational, held at the U-M Indoor Track Facility on Saturday. 

The same facility will hold the HL Championships next week with the event starting on Saturday. 

Junior Lesley Hanna (Exuma, Bahamas/Coakley) looks like he is returning to prime form at the right time winning the 400-meters in 49.84. Hanna has been battling an injury though out the indoor season. 

Sophomore Vushaun Landrum (Windsor, ON/Sandwich Secondary) had two top five efforts on the day taking third in the 200m in 22.58 and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.51m21'6.75”/, good for 10th in the all-time UDM record books. 

Senior Alex Gould (Comstock Park, MI/Comstock Park) placed third in the 600m with a time of 1:22.32, the seventh best run by a Titan, while senior Sam Jones (Detroit, MI / U-D Jesuit) earned a personal record in the 60m with a 7.32, good for 17th place. 

The mile saw three Titans post PR's led by junior Kevin Smalley's (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) 4:21.32 for fifth place. Sophomore Rob Radlich (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hills) ran a 4:24.36 for eighth and junior Ryan Ayala (Coopersville, MI/Coopersville) was right behind him in ninth with a 4:27.58. 

Freshman Chris Smalley (Gladwin, MI/Gladwin) recorded an indoor PR in the 800m finishing second in 1:57.55, while fellow freshman Joe Raffin (Valparaiso, IN/Chesterton) notched sixth in the 400m with a career best 51.40. 

Another pair of freshman earned top 10 performances as Vincent Lefler (Midland, MI/Midland) was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.62 and Taylor Hennrick (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) took ninth in the long jump with a 5.85m/19'2.5” mark. 

The men will now look for their third HL indoor title next week. The HL Indoor Championships is a two-day event beginning on Saturday and ending on Sunday.
