Women’s Track Competes At Silverston Invite

Saturday was a day for training as the Titan women's track and field team had one last meet before the Horizon League Championships taking the short trip to Ann Arbor to run in the Silverston Invitational. 

The event gave the women not only one last test before the championships, but gave the Titans another chance to run in the Michigan Indoor Track Facility that will be the site of next week's conference meet. 

Senior Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) was the highest performer taking runner-up in the weight with a throw of 16.80m/55'1.5” and sixth in the shot put at 12.73m/41'9.25”.

Sophomore Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) posted a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 11.17m/36' 7.75”, a jump that puts her fourth on the all-time Titan list, while senior Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI/Paw Paw) was 11th in the long jump with a leap of 4.91m/16'1.5”.

Freshman Amanda Hollern (Grand Rapids, MI/Catholic Central) posted a season best 8.09 for 13th in the 60m and eighth in the 200m in a time of 27.06.

Senior Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North) ran a 1:40.65 for sixth in the 600m, while senior Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH/Zanesville) was ninth in the 800m in 2:29.24.

Freshman Olivia Smid (Ann Arbor, MI/Whitmore Lake) was sixth in the 400-meters in 62.62. Rookie Sharonda Vesey (Westland, MI/Romulus) earned ninth in the 60-meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 9.96, while Katrina Oberski (Clyde, MI/Port Huron) timed a 5:36.36 in the mile for 10th.

The two day HL Championships will begin next Saturday with the women looking for their fifth HL title. Tickets are now on sale for $10 per day or $15 for the entire weekend. For more information, contact the Titan ticket office at 313-993-1700 or click here.
