MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
— After starting the second day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in second place, Saturday, Feb. 27, the men of Eastern Michigan University rallied to claim its 13th Indoor Title in 15 years since the inception of the MAC Indoor Championship in 1996.

The Eagles won nine of the 17 scored events, totaling 171 points, to secure the win. The University of Akron finished in second place (120), while Kent State University finished third (113), University at Buffalo was fourth (72) and host school Central Michigan University finished fifth (49).

Perhaps the most valuable performer for EMU was senior distance runner Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc). Volmar scored big for the Eagles, capturing two individual championships by finishing first in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. Ackeem Forde (Haynesville, Barbados-Colleridge & Parry School) also played a huge role in the Green and White's success. Forde earned top honors in the 400-meter dash, posting a top time of 48.39, and took second-place in the 200-meter dash. He was also the third leg in the championship 4x400-meter relay team with Kyle Fortin (Fairview, Mich. / Fairview Area Schools), Darrin Trammell (Detroit, Mich.-Mackenzie), and Nathan Blackwell (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Central).

Oliver Walther (Erfurt, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium)
continued his dominance in jumps as he won the triple jump with a mark of 49-00.25 and was fourth in the long jump. Clint Allen (Muskegon, Mich.-Orchard View) claimed yet another MAC 60-meter dash title as he scampered to victory in 6.78 seconds. Allen also  scored for the Eagles by finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Gerald Gersham (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield)
put together solid tosses in the weight throw and the shot put for second-place finishes in each event. David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's) claimed two MAC Titles as he ran the best mile of the Championship with a time of 4:15.08, and he was the anchor leg of the winning distance medley relay team. Brent also won last year's MAC Title in the mile run.

In total, seven Eagles repeated as individual MAC Champs from the 2009 Championship. Eagles Head Coach John Goodridge was named MAC Indoor Coach of the Year.

"I'd like to thank our coaching staff, athletes, and also the many EMU supporters who came out today," Goodridge said. "We had a great weekend."
