Strong Day Two Secures Fifth-Place in MAC Championship

EMU women's track and field has its best MAC Championship finish since 2006

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Wins in the 60-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay allowed the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team to secure a fifth-place finish in the Mid-American Conference Championship, Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Jack Skoog Track in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

ReJeana Marigna (Beverly, N.J.-Burlington) and Ashlee Abraham (Southfield, Mich.-Renaissance) finished one and two, respectively, in the 60-meter dash, each with a rounded time of 7.51 seconds. Marigna was also a member of the MAC Championship 4x400-meter relay team. Along with team members and Asia Rawls (Waterford, Mich.-Mott), Naomi Andre (Naples, Fla.-Golden Gate High School), Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.-South Dade), Marigna took home top honors after racing to a time of 3:47.73. Andre also scored by placing fourth in the 200, and Williams picked up five points for her fourth-place 400-meter finish.

Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) added six points to EMU's total by posting a third-place finish in the pole vault, while Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) also scored six points for the women by leaping to a season-best 19-04.00 feet in the long jump. The mark was the second best jump of her career.

The quartet of Morgan Churchwell (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central), Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Shade St. Louis (Kansas City, Kan.-Eldorado Senior Comprehensive (Trinidad)), and Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich.-Woodhaven) picked up three points for the women as the team earned a sixth-place finish in the distance medley relay in a time of 12:07.87.
