Women's T&F Leapfrogs Five Spots in Regional Ranking

Strong MAC outing bumps Eagles into 10th spot in Great Lakes Region

NEW ORLEANS, La. (EMUEagles)The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team jumped five spots in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, from 15th to 10th, following its fifth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship, Feb. 27.

The Eagles, who are in the Great Lakes Region, are currently ranked slightly below Kent State, and above Cincinnati and MAC opponents Central Michigan University and the University of Miami (Ohio). Strong outings in the sprint events (60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay) helped EMU gain its highest jump of the season and crack the top-10 rankings regionally.

ReJeana Marigna (Beverly, N.J.-Burlington), Asia Rawls (Waterford, Mich.-Mott), Naomi Andre (Naples, Fla.-Golden Gate High School) and Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.-South Dade) have posted the fifth-fastest 4x400-meter relay time (3:44.93), and three others also rank in the top-seven regionally.

Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) owns the seventh-fastest 200-meter dash time in the region with a mark of 24.29 seconds, while Marigna and freshman Ashlee Abraham (Southfield, Mich.-Renaissance) share the third-fastest time in the region in the 60-meter dash.

Four Big Ten schools sit atop the regional rankings as Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin are first, second, third and fourth, respectively.

Eastern will be back in action March 5, in South Bend, Ind. for the Alex Wilson Invitational.
