TAMPA, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) The Eastern Michigan University women's track team started the 2010 outdoor season in impressive fashion as it won three events at the University of South Florida Bull Invitational today, March 19, in Tampa, Fla.

Eastern was led by sophomore Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.-South Dade), who earned a victory in the 400-meter dash by posting a time of 55.20 seconds. She was also a member of the 4x400-meter team which also took first place.

Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) bounced back from a disappointing performance at the Mid-American Conference Championships to earn a first place finish in the 800-meter dash. Her time of 2:11.70 beat out second place by .21 seconds in a field of 26 runners.

In the field, Jessica Novakowski (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) posted a great season-opening mark with a pole vault height of 12-05.50. The height was good enough for second place in the event.

Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) also continued to be a well-rounded performance for EMU as she competed in the 100-meter dash (finishing 11th), the 200-meter dash (finishing seventh) and the long jump (finishing third).

EMU showed its team speed as five women finished in the top 11 in the 100-meter dash, and five finished in the top 12 in the 200-meter dash. The Eagles also took three of the top five finishes in the 400.

EMU will return to the track next weekend, March 26-27, as they take part in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
